Monday Montage

Thank you every pup and kitty for the well wishes of my paw.
I hurt my paw while dock diving on Sunday, mom did not
realize it til we started to walk down the path and I
could not put weight on my paw.
She got all worried and was about to carry me, soaking wet and all,
but I walked through the pain.
I did however make quite the mess with the blood, but
mom was more worried about it not stopping.
She held me in her arms applying pressure til it stopped.
I have quite a gash on my big pad on left paw, limping a lot less today
but taking it easy. =)
And now the worry wart mom has a question.......
Liz here, Mason is shedding worse than I have ever seen her in
all her 5 years. One swipe of the brush and it is full.
Any suggestions? I brush her and bathe her and she swims a lot,
is there any thing else I can do?
is this really common?

Dear Mason, Mom says when that happened to Murphy, she bought some liquid vitamin for dogs at Walmart that helps slow down all that shedding. Do not remember name, you will have to read the bottle. Keep us posted. Also you need to keep the paw wound clean and apply some neosporin. No swimming in lake until is it healed. You do not want any infection. Love you, Mabnmav

Hi Mason,

So glad to hear your paw is starting to heal. As for the shedding, mom says that brush full of fluff reminds her of the time she had her Golden/Labrador cross, Savannah. She shed just like that, all year around!

Yikes! If me and Banjo lost that much fur we'd be nekkid!

Pad wounds generally heal very fast. When Brice shredded his, he was walking normal in 3-4 days.

Fish oil capsules may help reduce the shedding since it conditions the coat and the skin.

Hi, Mason!
Glad to know your paw is much better!
I don't know if your sheeding is normal or not. I have short hair and don't sheed too much. I hope you can figure it out!
Take care

Dear Mason,
Good work on your Mom's part vis a vis the paw. I think your mom did a "pawsome" (haha) job stanching the bleeding. Now you need to rest. About the shedding. Hate to say it, but think you should ask the v-e-t just to make sure, if you've never shed like that before. I get "blows" a couple of times a year, but if you're concerned, think you should see yours and my favorite Doc guy/gal.
Thanks so much for voting for me, Mason!

Do you have a 'Furminator'?? They are awesome they pull all of the loose under coat out in one brushing. You can pick them up at any pet store like petsmart or petco. =)

You look so sad in the pictures, Mason. We hope your paw is all better real soon!

There is a brush called The Furminator that mom uses on our cat that works wonders with shedding. It is very expensive for a brush, but it works so good she said it was worth it. Amazon had much better prices on it than the pet stores.

Cloud

Hi Mason,

I'm glad your paw is getting better. My mom doesn't know much about shedding. She just calls Dr. Z. or Dr. T. if she has a doggie question...they are my doctors. I hope she can find out !

Glad you're on the mend, Mason. Wow, that is a lot of hair in that video clip! Wonder if the stress from your paw injury is causing it? Hope your human figures it out!

Our human sister's lab is shedding a lot too, maybe it has something to do with all the rain and humidity we seem to be having. Keep an eye on that paw for infection. Feel better, M.D.

Mom was puttin' somethin' in my food over the winter that had zinc and Vit E in it. Unfortunately she can't remember the name. She got it at the groomer where she buys my food. It was supposed to help dry skin and shedding.
We have a friend that feeds his 5 labs only the Raw diet and he says you can't pull their hair out it's stuck so tight.

Take care of that paw, Mason D! You look sad not bein' able to be your active self.

Hugs!

Hi Mason. I'm glad your paw is healing. Did you have to wear a sock? I did but I chewed it off. About the shedding - is it really hot where you are? Sometimes long-haired dogs will shed because of the heat. If your Mom's really worried, though, she should call the vet but I'm sure it's nothing.

Oh the shedding problem in our house is terrible too.. Hershey's been shedding BIG time for the last 3.5 months. How long do dogs shed for really? It's a miracle she's still got fur left on her.. LOL!
Our mom googled and found out that Omega 3 fish oil is good for the coat and at the same time can reduce shedding. We've started her on the fish oil for about 3 weeks and her coat is very shiny and the shedding has shown SOME improvement (i.e. lesser). Hope this helps!

Ohhh! OUCH! You are a trooper, Mason. I know how injuries can hurt. I've had my share of them. Hope the paw pad heals soon. As far as the shedding, my mom gives us fish oil capsules (approx 1000-1500 mg per day). I hardly ever shed. Hoppy sheds a little. Spud is the biggest shedder, but not nearly as much as other labs. I don't know if it's the fish oil or not. Take care, my friend. Hope to see you on the dock one day. Love, Sally

Glad you poor paw be starting to get better. Take it easy now.
My Mum's stupid philosphy be if in doubt then take us to the vets for any changes. Having said that a while back we had a mini heat wave and my coat was coming out whenever anyone touched me. So get your Mum to judge from the weather but if there been no sudden changes in it I'd go to the vets.

glad to hear your paw is doing better - since we are short haired dogs we have less fur total than is on that brush - but mommy says that is normal - but the vitamins are a good idea too

Mason, look after that paw! I've had a cut paw twice and it took a long time to heal because I kept going at it and hated if it was covered.

Don't know much about shedding because I don't shed much but the fish oils hint sounded good.

Take care
Clive

Sorry to hear about your owie!!! You did look awesome diving off the dock after your wubba!!!
We're all shedding like there's no tomorrow this year, so we're no help. If it makes you feel any better, what you describe sounds normal for a Siberian. Woo.

Hi there Mason! We're so sorry that we're posting so late, but my Mommy has tried to leave you a message at she couldn't see nothing at all in your blog, 'cause the page did not complete the download... We're happy to hear that you're getting better now!

Well, Pipa had the exact same shedding problem about 1 month ago. She's 1 year and 3 month now and we really got scared, 'cause we started thinking that that it was a normal shedding for goldens! So, we went to the vet, she told us that this bredds usually sheds a LOT like this about 2 or 3 times during their lifes. It's normal to just loose lots of fur and then recover it it all. That's what happening to Pipa. She's better now. Olive oil is REALLY good for shedding, just a bit per day.

Love

Pipa

Dear Mason,
Very sorry to hear that you are injured. I hope you heal quickly. Like I tell mom, who is home from rehab and doing well: Don't overdo and avoid stress, you need time to mend!

We're a day late and a dollar short but we didn't want to leave without wishing you to get well on your paw...ouchie! With the sheddin'. Momma says that we do it all the time no matter what she does. Some folks have told her that a change in diet might work, but we don't think so.☺

Ouch I cut my pad every now and then. It happens to me when I'm doing zoomies in my yard and because I take sharp turns.

Not sure about the fur. When mom brushes me it looks like that, but then again I am a sibe!
